Parliament Hill Tour - Events


When Parliament is in session, visitors may obtain passes to sit in the public galleries of the Senate and the House of Commons (when they are sitting). In the House of Commons galleries, an audio gallery guide tells visitors about the activies and the artwork in the chamber. Question Period takes place in both chambers. Question Period takes place at 2:15 p.m., everyday, except for Fridays when it takes place at 11:15 a.m.

For Senate Passes
No arrangements are required in advance. Advise security staff at the entrance to the Visitor Welcome Centre and they will direct you to the Public Galleries of the Senate.

For House Of Commons Passes
Groups of 10 persons or more must make arrangements through the office of their Member of Parliament. Individuals may also make arrangements through their Member of Parliament in order to request a seat, or may simply advise staff at the Visitor Welcome Centre for access to the Galleries on a first-come, first-served basis. The public gallery of the House of Commons has devices for persons using hearing aids set to T-mode.

Changing of the Guard
June to August
Daily (weather permitting): 10 am to 10:30 am
It's Canadian tradition at its most colourful! The Ceremonial Guard of the Canadian Forces bring stirring military drill and music to Parliament Hill. Come early (9:45 am) to learn more about the ceremony.  More Information click here.

Canada Day
July 1
People from across Canada join together to celebrate their country. A day of entertainment on Parliament Hill culminates in an evening show, featuring Canadian stars from coast to coast! More Information click here.

Meet a Mountie
mid July to end of August
Daily: 11 am to 3 pm
Meet a "Mountie", a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP)! This famous police force was formed in 1873 as the North-West Mounted Police to oversee the settlement of the West. The RCMP is both a part of Canadian history and a source of national pride. A scarlet-clad RCMP officer will be present on Parliament Hill daily throughout the summer. Christmas Lights Across Canada
From December - January
Parliament Hill sparkles with thousands of colourful lights. The magic starts at the show on opening night!

Evening open-house viewing:
4:30 pm - 8:30 pm
Don't miss the festive decorations in the hallways of the Centre Block. Come view the city, ablaze with lights, from the Peace Tower observation deck.
