As well as serving as headquarters for most
government departments and agencies, the Capital Region is
the site of national institutions that shape, define and communicate
the Canadian way of life (politically, legally, fiscally and
culturally). Institutions related to federal authority are
located in the Capital Region, for example: the House of Commons,
the Privy Council Office, the Supreme Court of Canada, the
Federal Court, the Bank of Canada, the National Archives and
many government departments.
Steve and his family are residents of the ward and their young
son was born at the Queensway-Carleton hospital. Steve has also
spent several years working in South Nepean. Fully bilingual,
Steve is a graduate of the University of Ottawa and holds a Masters
degree in Public Administration from Carleton University.
For more than a decade, Steve has worked for several departments
in the federal government and most recently in supporting Canada’s
hard-hit beef sector. He also managed a program designed to support
small-and-medium sized enterprise.
At the community level, Steve has been a leading advocate for
residents serving as Vice-Chair of the OC-Transpo Advisory Committee
and a member of the City of Ottawa Heritage Advisory Committee.
As a trustee on the Ottawa Public Library Board, Steve worked
to ensure that this core service was efficient and accountable
to taxpayers. He encouraged the public library to find alternative
forms of revenue. He understands government and has experience
with public-private partnerships.
He has also been a leader in building and shaping his neighbourhood
as Executive Vice-President of the Riverside South Community Association.
Steve played a lead role in the successful fight to protect lands
reserved for a much-needed elementary school and lobbied school
boards to focus on the needs of the community.
Steve is a member of the Friends of the Rideau River and a founding
member of the Barrhaven Legion.
